Sunday morning is the busiest the centre gets. The hall fills slowly from about nine, people take off their shoes at the door, and we begin together.
What happens
The session opens with chanting in Pali, with a romanised text and English translation provided so you can follow along or simply listen. A short talk follows, usually twenty minutes, on a passage from the discourses or something practical about daily practice.
Afterwards there is tea and a lot of conversation. Many people stay for an hour. Nobody minds if you leave straight away.
If it is your first time
- Arrive a few minutes early if you can, so someone can show you where things are.
- Sit on a cushion or a chair — both are available, and neither is more correct.
- You are not expected to chant. Listening is entirely normal.
- Children are welcome; the children's class runs at the same time.
There is nothing to sign, nothing to pay, and no one will ask you what you believe.
