Vesak Day observance and morning almsgiving
Our largest gathering of the year. Morning almsgiving, chanting, a candlelight circumambulation at dusk, and food throughout the day.
Vesak marks the birth, awakening and passing of the Buddha, and it is the one day of the year when the centre is full from morning until night.
The day
Morning begins with almsgiving to visiting monastics, followed by chanting and the taking of precepts. Through the afternoon the hall stays open for quiet practice and for the traditional bathing of the Buddha image.
At dusk there is a candlelight circumambulation, which is the part most people remember.
Helping out
Vesak runs on volunteers. If you can help with the kitchen, with setting up, or with clearing away at the end of the night, please let us know in advance.
